Course Offerings

Dance 1-IV Fine Art/P.E. Credit

Dance is open to all students and is a year-long course.  In order to advance to a higher level you must enroll in Dance I.  Students enrolled in dance classes must work physically, academically and creatively each day. You may not advance to Dance II, III or IV unless you have completed a full year of Dance I or received a recommendation from the teacher. The purpose of these courses is for students to experience the opportunity to enrich their kinesthetic awareness by learning several genres of dance (ballet, jazz, hip hop, modern, musical theater, social dance, world dance)as well as learning the anatomy of the human body, history of dance, movement analysis, techniques of choreography and dance/stage production. 

 

Drill Team Training Fine Art/P.E. Credit

Drill Team Training is open to all students and is a year-long course. The purpose of the Drill Team Training is for students to experience an opportunity to understand drill team principals in preparation for tryouts. Class time will be dedicated to technique and choreography to be performed at school and local events. The Drill Team Training class will be featured at events such as the Reedy HS Sapphire Spring Show, and a Football game. The course will focus on flexibility, technique and various skills needed for drill team tryouts. Students who are interested in being a Sapphire, it is HIGHLY recommended they enroll in this course. It is not a requirement prior to auditioning for Sapphires but will better prepare students for the audition.

 

RHS Dance Perks 

• Dance 1 receives Fine Arts AND P.E. credit.

• Both PE/Fine Arts Credit & GPA Opt out offered for upper level for those who completed Dance 1 & 2.

Requirements to Audition for Sapphires

• Entering grades 9-12 

• At least one parent and candidate present at the tryout meeting or must contact the director prior to meeting if not able to attend. 

2027 Sapphire Audition Meeting: Jan 26 2027 at 6pm at RHS.

• Be aware of financial responsibilities 

• Enrolled in Reedy Zone 

• Submit all required paperwork by designated date (received at meeting) 

• Must not have been academically ineligible for 2 or more grading periods during the school year. 

• Acceptable discipline records  (assigned to ISS, OSS or DAEP-must have permission from principal to participate in tryouts)

• Must not have been absent for more than 10% of school days in a school year. 

• Cleared by attendance and administrator’s office prior to tryouts. 

Audition Choreography

• Dancers will learn and perform a full routine with technical elements, jazz elements, hip hop elements and precision pom elements. 

• Dancers will learn and perform a kick routine from a video that will be discussed at tryout meeting 

• Dancers will demonstrate right and left splits 

• Dancers will learn and perform technical combinations across the floor
